Why on earth waste hardware by having it sit around brainless while another robot uses the only copy of the brain program?

If there is com status between the bots, then just get them to exchange data so they all share the same spatial map, but at least let them each be able to continue with a task - instead of having to wait for a share of the one 'brain'.

Perhaps I missed the 'point' but there did not seem to be more than one whole brain between the researchers for coming up with such a 'silly' system.

I don't think the idea is 'silly', the idea is to build a one to one relationship between the customer and the personality and for all the available learning to be concentrated into one entity. It also allows people to upgrade hardware without losing the personality they are used to.
